NBC News is reporting that the famous Old Route 66 through Missouri may soon be paved with a solar road made by Solar Roadways.
“If the solar roadway concept proves to be feasible, it creates electricity and could be the first road in history to ever pay for itself,” said Tom Blair, the team leader on Missouri’s Road to Tomorrow initiative, which was created two years ago to find ways to increase the state’s investment in its roadway infrastructure without raising taxes.
This is one of those innovations that we hope will eventually make their way onto our driveways. Imagine being able to install solar panels into a surface that already has prime visibility to the sun and won’t detract from the curb appeal of the home.
