Fresh from the Philippine furniture show: Outdoor furniture. Winter be gone. Warm, sunny, beautiful outdoor days are soon to arrive – Let’s get ready with great pieces…
Great design happens all around the globe – including on the Philippines….love these outdoor furniture designs. Combine modern design with age-old Philippine crafts and the outcome is nothing short of spectacular !
I love the wacky, fun “reed” chair called “Yoda”. It is designed and made by Kenneth Cobonpue. Cobonpue is among the most well-known of furniture designers in the Philippines. His collections can be seen in many hotels and other commercial establishments throughout Asia. Yoda is super comfortable and well made. While there is a lot of give there is also a lot of structure in this piece. It’s super comfortable and comes in three colors – green (shown) red and natural.
Here is his one of his latest collection just unveiled:
The middle chair is called “Glory Be Chair” made by Ann Pamintuan whose work includes both furniture and jewelry. The delicateness of jewelry certainly translates into her furniture. The chair’s organic, almost unstructured look reminds me of jellyfish. Pamintuan’s chair requires quite a bit of room. It look like sculpture that also happen to have a use or function. I guarantee everyone will want to test sit The “Glory Be Chair”.
Some more pieces from Ann Pamintuan’s collections see at the furniture show in Manila:
If the chair on the right strikes you as a bit more traditional, you are correct. It is an unlabeled piece in a Manila showroom. I include it because it points to the exceptional craftsmanship when it comes of rattan, wicker and other weaving materials in even basic made-in-the-Philippines outdoor furniture pieces.
As you know from my other articles, I love to mix in unusual, low-production furniture from designers and great artisans! Why be ordinary!
Let’s think summer and let’s get your patio, porch or backyard terrace ready with beautiful, well-made outdoor furniture. Why choose the ordinary?!
