Should Architects Let The Microbes In?

That’s the question posed in a recent article “Science & Society”, published in Trends in Microbiology by Yale environmental engineers.

“It’s a common misconception that all microbes found in one’s home are hazardous to your health. Many have no impact on health, while some may even be beneficial,” says Yale professor of chemical and environmental engineering Jordan Peccia, co-author of the review with PhD student Sarah Kwan.

The research seeks to identify a balance between our need for ultra energy-efficient homes and associated measures to purify the air and improve indoor air quality, with the need for our biological health that is supported by certain microbes naturally found in our environment.
